Thus, in cold weather, the shutters can be closed which allows the engine and the passenger compartment to be heated more quickly, and then to open these shutters according to the cooling needs of the engine and / or the passenger compartment. For some vehicle models, particularly off-road, the flaps are provided with seals to make the engine compartment 5 waterproof vis-à-vis the outside, especially for a fording.
